Greetings Black Knight Family and welcome to the 2018-19 School Year. We promise to do our best to make this “The Best Year Ever!” I am honored to introduce our new staff members for this school year:
Ms. Kaitlin Boyd- School Counselor, Ms. Miranda Sutliff- HS Math, Ms. Brianna Peck- HS Science, Mr. Brian Keating- HS Math and Robotics, and Mr. Matt Griesmer- Jr/Sr High Intervention. I am confident that each will be positive addition to our family.
Our staff is committed to meeting each student where he or she is and pushing each forward to reach his or her full potential. We offer a diverse curriculum designed to challenge each student in a variety of learning experiences. Our students will have over thirty electives to choose from this year, including new and expanded offerings in STEM, Robotics, and the visual arts. We encourage our students to make the most of our educational opportunities including taking College Credit Plus classes, programs at Auburn Career Center, online classes offered through Edmentum Online Learning, and job, college, and mentorship opportunities offered through Senior/Junior Seminar. It is our goal to prepare our students for the varied and exciting experiences that await them after they earn a Newbury Diploma.
Last spring our school was awarded the prestigious Great Schools College Success Award for college and career readiness. I want to congratulate our current and past students, our staff, our parents, and our community for all of their contributions to this award. You can read more about this award and our school at the following site:
I want to congratulate Ms. Shelly Anderson for being named 2018 HPAC Teacher of the Year. This award recognizes the most outstanding educator in over 90 schools in the HPAC Community. Newbury Schools are entering their fourth year of a partnership with HPAC (Health Professions Affinity Community), one of the largest health professions pipeline programs for youths in the country. This program is run through Northeast Ohio Medical University.
Our school is always looking for partnerships with businesses and organizations that could be mutually beneficial. We are very proud of the volume of volunteer work that our students perform for their community. If our students can be of service please contact me.
I am very proud of the fact that over 70% of our student body is participates in an extracurricular event, ranging from athletics, to the arts, and to STEM and Robotics. A majority of those students are involved in multiple activities.
In closing, we are excited about the opportunity to create the 2018-19 chapter in the rich history of Newbury Schools. We will continue to be respectful of those who came before us, continue to celebrate what a uniquely special place this is, and continue to dream big as we forge our collective future.
We are proud to be NEWBURY BLACK KNIGHTS!
